Paroxysmal & Neurovascular Disorders (PANE)
Research in this subtheme uses, and further develops, various methodologies that include the generation and molecular and functional characterization of novel (transgenic) animal models, MRI (e.g. new hemodynamic and brain clearance technology), neurophysiological and psychological testing in patients, multiphoton microscopy, and the use of human iPSCs and on-chip approaches. The overall aim is to develop disease readouts, study natural disease progression, predict attacks, unravel targets for drug treatment, to develop animal- and human-based models to develop tailored (including sex-specific) treatments, and test novel treatment modalities. A specific research aim is to bring at least one therapy to clinical phase of development for e.g. Dutch-type CAA and CADASIL.
The Ambassadors of the subtheme are Dr. Rolf Fronczek, Dr. Gido Gravesteijn, Prof. Dr. Ir. Thijs van Osch.
