Brain Function & Behavior
The research aims to unravel mechanisms underlying brain-relevant disease processes from a neurobiological and multidisciplinary perspective and translate findings into personalized treatment and prevention strategies that restore function and improve clinical outcome.
Specifically, the research focuses on understanding stress-related psychiatric disorders, the impact of disrupted circadian rhythms on health and wellbeing, the effect of glucocorticoids on the vulnerability to brain disease, optimizing clinical care for traumatic brain injury, and the development of new non-invasive MRI techniques, such as low-field MRI and methodology to investigate brain clearance by the glymphatic system. One additional important focus of research is to perform computer-science research aimed at developing data visualization methods and software that is best labelled as “Brainformatics”.
The Ambassadors of the subtheme are Prof. Nic van der Wee, Dr. Lydiane Hirschler, Dr. Laura Kervezee.
