Our USPs
Besides its size, LBSP has several unique selling points. It covers the entire chain of drug development, which is drug discovery, drug development, clinical and preclinical testing, registration, manufacturing, marketing, and sales. Furthermore, LBSP also has active collaborations between public and private stakeholders at the park including several companies, LUMC, Leiden University, the Centre for Human Drug Research, and the BioTech Training Facility.
Our focus
- Diagnostics and technological innovations for drug development
- Regenerative medicine and advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs)
- Prevention and lifestyle
- Vaccines and infectious diseases
Leiden Bio Science Park is a dynamic innovation district that offers a wide range of programmes and activities, and residential and leisure facilities. This makes LBSP a global destination for innovation, and a hub for Life Science & Health innovators from the Netherlands, Europe, and the rest of the world.
LUMC collaborations at LBSP
Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) is 1 of 6 founding partners of Leiden Bio Science Park (LBSP). The foundation is an excellent example of a successful “triple helix” collaboration, the concept of interaction between academia, industry, and government. In this case, we are talking about LUMC and Leiden University, the Municipalities of Leiden and Oegstgeest, and the Entrepreneurial Association OVBSP & Janssen Biologics.
By working together, we can solve complex societal questions. LUMC works closely together with companies on the LBSP, and there are several spinouts in the park. A prime example is the collaboration between LUMC and the pharmaceutical company Janssen, both strategic but also very practical in developing a COVID-19 vaccine.

Starting your own company
Leiden Bio Science Park offers an exceptional opportunity to start your own company. It has its own incubator program Unlock and various starter facilities (Biopartner). Examples of successful LUMC spinouts are VarmX (restoring blood clotting) and Ncardia (previously Pluriomics) in stem cell research.
