Outgoing students
The Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) believes in giving all her students the opportunity to go abroad. There are several options during the bachelor or master phase.
Bachelor
Biomedical Sciences
- Year 2, semester 1 or 2; courses at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden
- Year 3, semester 1; half minors (Cuba, UK, Indonesia, France and Scotland) or find something yourself
- Research internship year 3; 16 weeks: student research project in Leuven, Belgium or Stockholm, Sweden for example
Medicine
- Half minors in year 3; (Cuba, UK, Indonesia, France, Scotland and Finland) or find something yourself
Bachelor
Biomedical Sciences
- Year 2, semester 1 or 2; courses at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden
- Year 3, semester 1; half minors (Cuba, UK, Indonesia, France and Scotland) or find something yourself

Biomedical Sciences
- Frontiers of Science (FOS) courses at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden and Heidelberg University, Germany
- Research: Junior Research Project I or II; 6 to 9 months
Medicine
- Research: internship (Dutch: wetenschapsstage) 18 to 28 weeks in year 1 or 3 of the master
- Clinical Rotations
- Elective area year 6 (10 weeks)
Health, Ageing and Society
- Research: internship (10 weeks)
Pharmacy
- Elective area (10 weeks)
- Research: internship (21 weeks)
Technical Medicine
- Elective area
- Research: internship
