Cardiologist and invasive cardiac electrophysiologist
Dr. Hadrian Wijnmaalen (MD, PhD)
Introduction
I am cardiologist and invasive cardiac electrophysiologist practicing at the LUMC and part of the Willem Einthoven Center for Cardiac Arrhythmia research and Management.
Scientific research
My academic work focuses on the assessment, risk-stratification and management of tachyarrhythmias in patients with complex atrial and ventricular arrhythmia substrates. Key factors are characterization of substrates (invasive electrophysiological mapping and non-invasive by CMR), its direct implications for patient care and development of novel methods/techniques in arrhythmia treatment. I am involved in multiple (international) research collaborations and supervises PhD research in this field. At the LUMC he is initiator and coordinator of the 'LUMC expertise center for rare cardiomyopathies' in which experts from different disciplines join efforts to enhance care and scientifical knowledge for patients rare non-ischemic cardiomyopathies.
As ambassador of the cardiovascular research theme I aim to catalyze connections between basic and clinical researchers from diverse disciplines, drive results that directly impact patient care and elevate the visibility of our theme.
