Introduction
As head of the research department at LUMC Curium, I am responsible for the daily management of the research team, as well as its scientific and strategic direction. I lead a driven team of senior researchers, PhD students and experts by experience, ensuring the quality and integrity of our work while fostering an open and safe working environment. My focus lies in collaboration, innovation, valorization and supporting young, talented researchers.
As an Associate Professor, I initiate and lead various research projects, supervise PhD students and share knowledge through teaching and policy-/organizational advising. My expertise lies in advancing innovation in child and adolescent psychiatry through qualitative research, co-creation and implementation. In 2021, I obtained my PhD on the topic of ‘Integrated Youth Care’, with a strong focus on what professionals need to effectively support families facing multiple problems across various life domains.

Scientific research
Our research focuses on families with children facing severe, multiple mental health problems. Through innovative, practice-based, scientific research, we aim to make support more appropriate, effective, and efficient. We unravel complexity and break patterns in a group of young people that is often overlooked in research. We work in co-creation with children, families, and practitioners, enabling continuous learning and improvement in practice, with applicable knowledge products and innovative insights as a result.
Through interdisciplinary collaboration, we join forces with academic, practical, and policy partners. We strive for synergy between different research methods (mixed methods) to find refined answers. This includes epidemiological studies (DREAMS, ELAN) and qualitative research based on the stories of youth and their families. Additionally, we develop and evaluate innovative treatments through experimental, observational, and action research.
