Pathophysiology and treatment of bleeding
Improving the understanding, diagnosis, care and treatment of bleeding
Our research is focused on a better understanding of the pathophysiology of especially inherited bleeding disorders, with a focus on Von Willebrand disease and hemophilia. We aim to develop new and highly innovative treatment strategies for these inherited bleeding disorders, including the development of new inhibitor-bypassing clotting agents. We also address management and care of bleeding disorders with a focus on patient-related outcomes measures. Apart from inherited bleeding disorders we study acquired bleeding disorders and the treatment of bleeding associated with anticoagulant medication.

(Inter)national collaboration
The research of bleeding disorders is performed in collaboration with several partners, including the Dutch Hemophilia treatment centers, several national and international research consortia, and in consultation with the Dutch Society of Hemophilia Patients (NVHP).
