Introduction
Since 2007, I have been working as a dermatologist in the LUMC. Before starting my career here in Leiden, I got my degree in Medicine at the University of Amsterdam and trained as a dermatologist at the VU Medical Center. I did my PhD research at Leiden University and postdoctoral research at the Netherlands Cancer Institute and Dana Farber Cancer Institute. In this position I mainly focus on the care for patients diagnosed with melanoma and on research on this malignant tumour type. In addition, I am responsible for patients with a skin disease admitted to the nursing ward and for pediatric dermatology at LUMC. The treatment of patients with melanoma is performed in close collaboration with the Department of Surgery and department of Medical Oncology. The LUMC is a national expertise center for hereditary melanoma, in which the department of Dermatology and the department of Clinical Genetics work together.
Scientific research
The research is aimed at improving the diagnosis and treatment of patients with (hereditary) melanoma. In part it concerns genetic and cell biological research carried out in preclinical laboratories.
