PHEG Science Committee

The Science Committee of the Department of Public Health and Primary Care (PHEG) reviews research protocols and amendments, of both research subject to or exempt from the Medical Research Involving Human Subjects Act (WMO). This involves scientific research conducted under the responsibility of researchers of the PHEG department (that is, those acting as project leaders or major role in data collection).

We advise to submit any research intended for publication, including research that does not involve patients. Below you will find a description of our procedure and the necessary forms available for download (in Dutch).

Submission to PHEG Science Committee

For review, the investigator should send the completed application form along with all relevant documents to PHEG_Wetenschapscommissie@lumc.nl. These relevant documents are the same as those required by the ethics committee METC-Leiden Den Haag Delft and can be found in the PHEG  I-drive. The LUMC templates can be found on the intranet (Albinusnet) in Zenya.

The secretariat sends the protocol to two referees, who evaluate it within 3 weeks according to a standard checklist. Research with ELAN-data will be evaluated by the ELAN-team with a separate (shorter) checklist. The evaluation includes the advice to the Science Committee (Positive, Positive with suggestions for improvement, Major advice for improvement). The evaluation is reviewed by the Science Committee, and after possible additions, forwarded to the applicant.

Tip: prior to submission

Sometimes it may be more convenient to discuss a study or protocol first with our network partners or with the PHEG research center. They can, for example, help think about relevance or practical issues, such as tips around recruitment.
