Introduction
I am Associate Professor at the department of Public Health and Primary Care. I have established my research line on the role of identity (i.e. perceptions of ‘who I am’) in health behavior, focused on -but not limited to- smoking cessation in vulnerable groups. I am highly motivated to improve support for those in disadvantaged positions to live a healthy life, such as people with lower socio-economic positions or psychological problems. They need support the most, but are often insufficiently reached.
Scientific research
I am a mixed-method researcher with expertise in advanced quantitative and qualitative methods, and co-creative approaches. This enables me to develop, evaluate and implement smoking cessation and health behavior change interventions that fit the needs of people in vulnerable positions. I am daily supervisor of several PhD students, lead a number of large research collaborations, and teach health behavior change to students. I also work as registered psychologist (GZ psycholoog in Dutch) in a mental healthcare practice in Leiden.
