Introduction
I am an internist-infectiologist and am active in patient care, research and teaching. My focus is on urinary tract infections, and together with a urologist, I see many patients with complex or recurrent urinary tract infections. Following that, I conduct research on the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of these infections.
I am also involved in antimicrobial stewardship and work with the Care Network Antimicrobial Resistance Holland West and the MRSA Network on issues such as antibiotic allergy and MRSA carrier-status.

Scientific research
Urinary tract infections are common, but there is much room for improvement in diagnosis, prevention and treatment. My research focuses on issues closely related to clinical practice. For example, we are working on better urine tests to improve diagnosis, especially in the elderly. We are also investigating new treatments for preventing and treating urinary tract infections, such as bladder installations and fecal microbiota transplantation. In 2025, with a grant from ZonMW, a nationwide study on catheter-associated urinary tract infections will start.
