Prof. Dr. M.E.H. (Mirjam) van Reisen

Area(s) of expertise:
FAIR Data Science, Global Health, Infectious diseases, Sensitive data, Vulnerable communities
Introduction
I want to improve healthcare decision making by creating federated, AI-ready, privacy-preserving data pipelines. My focus is on antenatal care (ANC), infectious and neglected diseases, with an emphasis on data from the humanitarian sector and vulnerable communities. My project involves technical research into data engineering, access controls and meaningful consent settings, while ensuring full privacy preservation and secure data analysis using FAIR Data Points and Stations within a Value-driven Ownership of Data Accountability Network (VODAN). I work with linked data repositories. My research focuses on the processing of data between countries and continents, and I have a special focus on collaboration with Africa, Asia and the Global South. My goal is to give individuals and organizations control over their data, promoting trust in data-driven practices.
Scientific research
I am the leader of the FAIR Data Science group in LUMC at LUCID. My research group is an international group of researchers with diverse backgrounds. I am interested in operational implementations in a natural environment to best study which factors play a role in data management. I teach at the Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS): FieldLabs and Data Governance. I am also affiliated with the Department of Cultural Studies at Tilburg University, where I mainly pay attention to the cultural aspects of digital data exchange. My interest is in the data that is often missing due to the vulnerability of groups of people living in war zones or in vulnerable circumstances.
