Introduction
In 1998, I finished my degree in Medicine at the University of Leiden. During my study I spent one year doing transplantation research at the University of California in San Francisco. In 2000 I started my surgical training at the University of Groningen, followed by a 2-year transplantation fellowship of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons at the University of California in San Francisco. I wrote my thesis on ‘Sentinel node procedure in colorectal cancer’. In 2007 I became a staff member of the Department of Surgery at the Leiden University Medical Center. My surgical expertise includes; liver, kidney and pancreas transplantation, laparoscopic procedures and hepatobiliary surgery. I am involved in transplantation surgery training and quality control. My main scientific interest includes; donor risk indices and outcome prediction and improving graft preservation.
