Introduction
Dr. van der Velde finished his bachelor in Health Science and master in Physical Activity and Health at Maastricht University. At The Maastricht Study, he completed his PhD in 2017 with the title: “Sedentary behavior, physical activity, and fitness: associations with cardio-metabolic health”. In 2018 he joined the department of clinical epidemiology at LUMC. His work mainly centers around The Netherlands Epidemiology of Obesity (NEO) study. In this cohort study, he focuses on the interplay between lifestyle (with a specific interest for physical activity), overweight and type 2 diabetes. He is also involved in the TIMED consortium, in which he studies the mechanisms and impact of differentially timed physical activity throughout the 24-hour period on the development of type 2 diabetes.
