All-round Cell Culture Research Technician in Beta Cell Research

You have 20 more days to apply

Are you interested in regenerative medicine? In this position, you will contribute to research on the generation of human insulin-producing cells from stem cells as a potential treatment for diabetes mellitus. You will work with advanced cell culture and analysis techniques within a leading research group in Europe. Surrounded by experts in an innovative environment at the Bio Science Park in Leiden, you will play a direct role in the development of new therapies.

About your role

A technician position is available in the Islet group in the Department of Internal Medicine of the LUMC. Within the group, research is being conducted on human insulin-producing cells in the context of new treatments for people with diabetes mellitus. The LUMC is one of the few centers in Europe that isolates insulin-producing Islets of Langerhans from donor pancreas. This is done for islet transplantation in patients with type 1 diabetes and for basic and translational research. Due to a lack of organ donors, we are also investigating stem cells as a new source of insulin-producing cells. Your main tasks:

  • Contributing to translational research towards the generation of insulin-producing cells from human pluripotent stem cells.
  • Performing cell culture of human pluripotent stem cells and differentiation into insulin-producing cells.
  • Executing analyses using techniques such as flow cytometry, qPCR, and (immuno)histochemistry.
  • Working with various microscopy techniques, including confocal and live cell imaging.

In this position, you will have to deal with irregular working hours.

About your workplace

You will be working in the brand new labs at Mirai House, located at the Bio Science Park, where over a hundred stem cell researchers are clustered. The researchers work together to create a new generation of effective and safe stem-cell based therapies for diseases that are currently incurable, such as diabetes.

About you

You are interested in basic and translational research and take satisfaction in working with precision and accuracy. You work in a structured manner and contribute to a positive team environment. Additionally, you communicate clearly, both in Dutch and English. You are flexible and willing to work irregular hours. Furthermore, you bring:

  • At least a completed HLO degree in cell biology and/or biomedical research.
  • Experience in several molecular and cellular techniques, including cell culture, flow cytometry, qPCR, western blot, (immuno)histochemistry, and microscopy.
  • Experience with human pluripotent stem cell culture, including generation, expansion, and differentiation of hiPSC, is considered a plus.
  • Affinity with working in a GMP environment (experience is a plus).
