About your role
As a postdoc in the Islet Group within the Department of Internal Medicine, you will engage in translational research focused on developing new treatments for diabetes mellitus. The primary goal is to generate clinically applicable, patient-specific induced pluripotent stem cells, which will then be differentiated into insulin-producing cells. LUMC is one of the few centers in Europe that isolates pancreatic islets from donor organs, both for transplantation in patients with type 1 diabetes and for fundamental and applied research.
Your top five tasks:
- Optimize differentiation protocols to generate stem cell-derived insulin-producing cells.
- Generate and characterize patient-specific induced pluripotent stem cells.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to translate research findings into clinical applications.
- Analyze and interpret experimental data and contribute to scientific publications.
- Present research findings at (inter)national conferences.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative research at a leading center of expertise in islet transplantation and stem cell technology.
About your workplace
You will be mainly based at the brand new labs at Mirai House, located at the Bio Science Park, where over a hundred stem cell researchers are clustered. The researchers work together to create a new generation of effective and safe stem-cell based therapies for diseases that are currently incurable, such as diabetes.
About you
You are well-organized, precise, and a team player. Additionally, you have sufficient command of the English language to communicate effectively in an international research environment. You are flexible and willing to work irregular hours.
Furthermore, you have:
- A PhD in a relevant field, such as biology or biomedical sciences.
- Experience in generating, culturing, and differentiating human pluripotent stem cells (hESC, hiPSC).
- Knowledge of standard molecular and cellular biology techniques, such as RNA and protein analysis, immunostaining, and flow cytometry.
- Preferably, experience with bioreactors.
Our offer
Driven by health; that's our mission. This applies not only to our patients but also to our employees. We strive to provide a safe, inclusive and equitable work environment, with a focus on talent development and connected leadership. In order to be able to continue to learn and develop, we offer internal and external training. You are also entitled to an end-of-year bonus (8,3%), holiday allowance, sports budget, bicycle scheme, home office allowance and an excellent commuting allowance. Furthermore, as an employee of LUMC, you are also affiliated with the ABP pension fund. This means that 70% of your pension premium is paid by LUMC, leaving you with a higher net salary. Nice, right?
