Applying for Entry and Residence Permits
Whether you need to apply for an entry and/or residence permit depends on the following factors
- Length of stay (less than or more than 3 months).
- Origin (from inside or outside the EU) Function at LUMC (researcher or other function).
- You can check which permits you might need in the flow chart.
You will be contacted by a member of the Visa Service Desk (through the Personnel Service Point) to assist you with the immigration process. The Visa Service Desk will arrange the application for your entry and residence permit with the IND. You can pick up your entry permit at the Dutch embassy or consulate in your country of residence. You will receive a signal from the Visa Service Desk when you can pick up your entry permit.
The application for your residence permit will be processed automatically once your entry permit has been issued. You can collect it from the IND within 3 months of your arrival in the Netherlands.
Entry and residence permit for family members
Will your partner and children also come to live in the Netherlands? If so, the Visa Service Desk will apply for an entry and residence permit for them as well.
Booking your trip
Now that your entry permit has been arranged, you can start booking your trip to the Netherlands. Tell the contact person at the Visa Service Desk when you will be arriving in the Netherlands. This person will arrange your appointment at LUMC and make a number of appointments for you (including with the municipality).

Your contact at the Visa Service Desk will schedule several appointments for you:
- Appointment with your contact at the Visa Service Desk
- Registration with the municipality and application for a BSN (birth certificate required)
- Medical examination (depending on your position)
- TB test at the GGD (depending on your country of origin)
