Olaf Dekkers studied medicine and philosophy. He is currently working as an endocrinologist and clinical epidemiologist at the Leiden University Medical Center.
His main research interest are meta-analysis and guideline development. He is methodological chair of the Guideline Committee of the European Society of Endocrinology. He was involved in many guideline: Hypoparathyroidism (2015), Adrenal Incidentaloma (2016), Pheochromocytomas (2016), Turner Syndrome (2017), Aggressive Pituitary Tumors and Adrenal Carcinoma (2018), Pituitary adenomas in Pregnancy (2020), Endocrinopathies in ICI use (2022), Adrenal insufficiency in glucocorticoid use (2024).
He is chair of the advisory committee of the Gezondheidsraad (Dutch Health Council) on Screening and member of the Board of the Dutch Medical Agency (CBG). He is also chairing the ethical review board of the LUMC.
